Fly Fishing Utah's Fabled Green RiverFly Fishing | Fishing Hotspots | By Chad Foster
Most fly fishing anglers would not consider Utah their top choice for a top fly fishing destination, but they should. Utah is perhaps one of America's best kept secrets when it comes to fly fishing. Utah has over a 1,000 fishable waters. These range from fertile warm-water fisheries in lower valleys to cold high mountain streams and rivers developing from some of the most beautiful peaks in the west.
Eight years on the road as host of ESPN's Fly Fishing America program exposed me to some amazing locations, but Utah just might be the best there is. Last week, we returned to Utah's fabled Green River and spent two amazing days landing giant brown trout! October is streamer season on the Green, so the flies are big and the strikes are intense. This 20" brown was one of 18 we landed on a day that will long be remembered!
The fly of the day was a #2 Sex Dungeon tied by Fried Tied Flies out of Boone, North Carolina. A special thanks to Brian Wimmer from Sundance Resort Fly Shop for providing the guide service for this trip. If you are looking for big trout and an unforgettable experience, fly fishing Utah is a trip you wouldn't regret.
