General Fishing Line Guide for Bass Fishing
March 12, 2017 by Don Manning
Today there are so many different brands and types of fishing line on the market that it is almost impossible to decide which one to choose. Especially because each type of line can vary based on the bass fishing lure you are using. It will never be easy, and for those that are fishing extensively, those that are professional anglers or those that are fishing guides, a fishing line guide is a must have for your bass fishing lures.
Different Types of Fishing Line
There are three main types of fishing line. Monofilament, fluorocarbon and braid. Each is designed for a certain style of fishing and works best with different types of bass fishing lures. As a bass angler, you need to know what fishing lines to use for what style of fishing in order to maximize your fish catching ability.
For each type of fishing line, you need to know the pros and cons associated with them. Starting with monofilament fishing line, it is a good all purpose fishing line for general fishing situations. Monofilament has good knot strength, is pretty smooth and casts well with a variety of bass fishing lures. This type of fishing line also floats and stretches and is economically priced compared to other fishing lines. Fluorocarbon fishing line has excellent abrasion resistant, is almost invisible under water and has very low stretch. The knot strength of fluorocarbon fishing line is exceptional but has a higher price point than its predecessor, monofilament line. Lastly, braided fishing line does not stretch like the previously two types of fishing line. Braid is highly visible underwater and can be broken down by UV light over time. It is also on the expensive side but last forever with proper care.
Bass Fishing Lure Fishing Line Guide
So, which fishing line should you use with different bass fishing lure choices? Below is a general fishing line guide for the more common bass lures anglers will be throwing this spring.
As you can see fluorocarbon fishing line is very versatile and is often the choice for many different types of bass fishing lures you may be using. In fact if you had to choose just one fishing line for the day, it would be fluorocarbon. It is more expensive than monofilament fishing line, but it will last much longer and work many more lures than the other two types of fishing line. This fishing line guide should act as a fishing line guide cheat sheet when you are looking for a general idea of which type of line to use with a specific type of bass fishing lure.
