4,000 feet
One of the most spectacular places in Pennsylvania is the Pennsylvania Grand Canyon. A place to disconnect from reality and connect back to the more important things in life was cut by glaciers decades ago and first settled by Native Americans. Pine Creek cuts through the Gorge all the way from Ansonia to Jersey Shore. The gorge is 4,000 feet from ridge to ridge and on average 1,000 feet deep. The Pennsylvania Grand Canyon offers fishing, hunting, biking, boating and just about anything outdoors. [WGRZ]
180,000 sockeyes
Continued heat and drought conditions on the west coast are further affecting the sockeye salmon population. Low mountain snowpack and record high temps have increased water temps above 70 degrees within the Columbia River watershed. Predicting an 80% loss of salmon, fishery experts are estimating that only 180,000 sockeyes have made it up river, closer to spawning grounds. [LA TIMES]
69th annual
The North Wisconsin Rod and Gun Club annual Bud Williams Boys and Girls Fishing Party commenced for the 69th time this past weekend. Over 222 kids between the age of 7 and 13 participated in the event. Not only a fun day of fishing and outdoors for kids but the event boasts a great community gathering of outdoor enthusiasts who are willing to share some time to help past on the tradition. 8 streams
The Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission unveiled a new program focused on creating destinations for trout anglers. The new big trout program, name voting under way here, will take 14-20 inch trophy trout and stock them at high densities in stretches across 8 streams in the Commonwealth. The goal is to create destination fisheries based off of the extremely successful stretch on Pine Creek near Slate Run where anglers come for large trout and in turn support local communities.
