Painting directly to aluminum will not work so several steps are needed prior to painting. First, strip the hull of all old paint and sand with 180 grit paper. Wash the hull with soap and water before using grease and wax remover, such as enamel or lacquer thinner, to wipe it down with. Next spray on a conversion coat of vinyl wash primer and when dry finish with two coats of epoxy primer. Your boat is now ready for paint. Choose a marine ready paint to last many years of fishing trips.
